ITALY, Lucania, Sybaris (new Sybaris or later called Thurium), (443-425 B.C.), silver triobol, (1.055 grams), obv. head of Athena to right, wearing crested Athenian helmet, rev. bull standing to right, looking back, **S*YBA in exergue, (S.433 [£150], SNG ANS 862-8, SNG Cop.1403-4, BMC 33). Good fine and rare.
A new Athenian colony on the site of the ruined city of Sybaris which was destroyed shortly afterwards. The coin reflects the transition between the old city and the next city that evolved in 425 B.C. called Thurium.
