GIBRALTAR, Prisoner of War Camp, Laguna, Gibraltar, sixpence black on lime green card, No.0438, undated but issued after 1942, back with ink large crowned square stamp stating 'WVS Civil Defence', (Campbell 5045 unpriced). Note has is lightly stained in places back and front, otherwise good very fine and extremely rare and possibly the only circulating note to survive.

Ex Spink Banknotes Auction Sale, London April 1996 (lot 470). The Laguna camp was a temporary holding camp established in April 1942 for Italian POW's on their way to permanent camps in Great Britain. A single run of 2000 sixpence notes was ordered under a government contract. Campbell writing in 1993 knew of only one note and that was a Specimen note No.05001. This example appears to be the only circulating example to be published.
