SASSANIAN KING, Ardashir I (A.D. 224-240), silver drachm, (3.488 grams), obv. bearded bust to right of king [Parthian type], wearing tiara, centre a star, star on bust at bottom, legend around, rev. fire altar, without attendants (Sellwood type II, Plate I, 6; cf.Gobl 6, cf.M.787). Possibly has been mounted in field, otherwise very fine and a very rare type.
