CLAUDIUS, (A.D. 41-54), AE sestertius, Celtic immitative issue from uncertain mint, issued c.A.D. 50, (15.2 grams), obv. bare head to left, around T CLAVDIVS CAESAR AV[G P M TR P IMP], rev. Spes advancing to left, around SP[ES] AVGVSTI, SC in exergue, obverse countermarked with AC in block, (cf.S.635 for type, cf.RIC 99, not in BMC). Tiber patina, countermark fine, coin nearly fine/poor, the countermark apparently unlisted.
The countermark AC is a crude copy of AVG which is an official countermark and was probably applied by the Celts to held it pass as a genuine sestertius of the Empire.
