CAMBRIDGE, James Burleigh's private token, bronzed penny, Hobson Cambridge carrier on horseback to right/conduit (D&H 9). Overlapped edge lettering. Even brown gloss tone with hints of red, good extremely fine and rare, only 48 struck.
Purchased from Spink in 1976. 'Hobson's choice' (or this or none) the proverbial saying derived from the rule that each horse in the stable of Thomas Hobson (1543-1630) should have an equal share of rest and work and that no horse should be let out before its turn.
