READING, J.B. Monk's gold forty shillings or two pound piece, 1812, by Halliday for Edward Thomason, crowned bust of Alfred left/legend partly reads 'payable in Bk. Notes at 6.s the DWT.' Monk was proprietor of his own bank and was MP for Reading (D.1). A few handling marks and minor rim nicks otherwise nearly extremely fine/extremely fine with some original mint bloom and very rare.
