GROUP OF FOUR: Brassey Field Firing & Marching Competition Medals (type 1), 25. May. 1896 (embossed date); May 24th 1897 (engraved date); and (type 2), 24, May, 1899 (embossed date); 3 June 1901 (engraved date). 2nd Batt. Inf B'Gde on reverse, and Lieut R.A.Fuller. on edge of first medal; 2nd Battn I.B. on reverse, and Lieut R.A.Fuller. on edge of second medal; 2nd Batt. Inf. B'Gde. on reverse, and Lieut. R.A.Fuller on edge of third medal; 2nd Batt. Inf. B'gde on reverse, and Lieut. R.A.Fuller, D Coy. on edge of last medal. All medals engraved. Stored in case with 4 sections, one for each medal, extremely fine and very rare as a group of four to one recipient.

In Medals to Australia by R.D.Williams it states only one recipient is known with 4 named medals. In Noble Numismatics Sale 107 (lot 4618) we sold an identical group of four named to Pte T.S.Payne, so the above group of four to Lieut. R.A.Fuller is the second known such group.

Robert Arnold Fuller, born 05May1871, resident of St Kilda, Vic; appt'd Lieutenant 2nd Infy Bn (Militia), 1st Victorian Regt in Melbourne 22Jun1894 with Annual Camps at Langwarrin, Vic; awarded Special Certificate at School of Musketry Instruction Course, Williamstown, Vic in 1898 and passed for promotion; Acting Permanent Adjutant 08Feb1902 while Vice Lt Bruche was on service in South Africa; to 6th Aust Infy Regt (AIR) 30Jun1903; Captain on Unallotted List 01Jul1903; to Reserve of Officers 10Dec1904; Resigned 03Dec1914.

Appointed Treasurer Naval and Military Club Melbourne 1900-1901, and Secretary from 01Jan1903; was married to Eva Helen Newell in Wellington, NZ in Apr1904; died in Jan1930 - it was reported that Robert Arnold Fuller, a prominent businessman of Palmerston North, died of heart failure on board the coastal steamer Nikau sailing from French Pass after being on holidays with his wife, son and daughter.
