MACEDON, Kingdom of, Antigonos Doson (229-221 BC) silver tetradrachm (17.02g) obv head of Poseidon to right wreathed with a marine plant, dotted border, rev BAZIAEOE ATIBINOY along side of prow of war galley on which sits Apollo to left naked, holding out a bow, monogram below (S.6789, SNG Alpha Bank 1046-7, SNG Ash. 3266). Attractive dark patina, nearly extremely fine and very rare in this condition.

Ex Spink NC, April 2002 with their ticket, illustrated on inside front cover in colour. The issue may record Antigonos and Antiochas Hierax victory over Ptolemy IIIs fleet off the island of Andros in 227 BC.
