Syria, Kingdom of, Antiochos II Theos, (261-246 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.75 g), Laodikeia by the Sea, issued c.260-245 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, BZ monogram to left, [dolphin above], to right **SELEUKOU*, in exergue **BASILEWS*, AB monogram under throne, (cf.S.6829, SC 576.2a, HGC 9, 12i, Newell WSM 1219, Houghton Group 26, HGC 9, 235). Good fine and rare.
Ex Patrick Cooper Collection, from CNG Triton VI, January 14-15, 2003 (lot 1565 part), bought from Beirne of Birmingham at London, June 1997 for £115 with tickets etc.
Newell counted five coins coming from two obverse and four reverse dies for this type.
