Pte E Wolpert, born 1874 at Inverell, NSW; served with NSWMR which left Sydney on the transport ship, Southern Cross, 17Jan1900; arrived Cape Town 17Feb1900; after active service at Poplar Grove and Driefontein he served during Roberts' march to the Transvaal and thought to be at the Battle of Johannesburg; invalided to Australia arriving 13Sep1900; on recovery he made his way back to South Africa and enlisted in the Bushveldt Carbineers at Maitland on 16Mar1901, age 24, farmer; Disch.26Sep1901 from BVC; Corps of Transport stockriders 01Oct1901 - 01Apr1902.
