Syria, Kingdom of, Demetrios II Nikator, second reign, (129-125 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.25 g), Ptolemais (Ake) mint, undated issue but probably 127-126 B.C., obv. diademed and bearded head of Demetrius II to right, filleted border, rev. Zeus seated left on throne, holding Nike and sceptre, on right, **[B]ASILEWS DHMHTRIOU* and to left QEOU NIKATOPOS*, monograms in exergue of **DH* and MI, (cf.S.7103, SC 2202, ACNAC Houghton 802, LSM 4, HGC 9, 1117g [RR]). Bright, good very fine, a very rare mint.
Ex Patrick Cooper Collection, from CNG Triton VI, January 14-15, 2003 (lot 1565 part), bought from Glendinings, London, December 4, 1985 for £80, with tickets.
