SYRIA, Kingdom of, Alexander I Balas, (150-145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.24 g), Antioch on the Orontes mint, dated year 165 = 148-147 B.C., obv. diademed head of Alexander I to right, filleted border, rev. Zeus seated left on throne, holding Nike and sceptre, on right, **BASILEW[S] ALEXANDRO[U]* and to left **QEOPATOR[OS] EUERGE[TOU]*, cornucopiae on far left, under throne date **GXR* and monogram, (cf.S.7030, HGC 875a, SC 1784.4a). Deeply toned, slightly uneven flan, very fine and scarce.
