AETHELRED II, (978-1016), silver penny, Helmet type, London Mint, issued 1003-1009, (1.22 g), obv. radiate helmeted bust to left, +EDELRED REX ANGL around, rev. long cross voided with three crescents at each end over square with trefoil at each end, +EAD MVN D M-O LVND (Eadmund of London), (S.1152, N.775, BMC viii). Red and gold patination, extremely fine and rare as such.
