EDWARD THE CONFESSOR, (1042-1066), silver penny, trefoil quadrilateral type, issued 1046-1048, obv. EDPE RD RE, diademed bust of king to left with sceptre, rev. ELPIN ON LVNDE (Aelfwine of London) with short cross voided, quatrefoil and pellets in angles, (S.1174, N.817, BMC iii). Toned, nearly extremely fine and scarce.

Ex Mark E. Freehill Collection, previously from Spink & Son, London with ticket acquired in August 2001 and listed in the Spink Numismatic Circular HS0021, December 2000, coming previously from the C.J.Eaglen Collection (lot 1449) and noted as coming from Seaby Coins 10th April 1992 (lot 1205).
