DFC GROUP OF SIX: Distinguished Flying Cross (GRI for GVIR 1939-48) with pin-back ribbon suspender; 1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. At the base of the first medal is chisel engraved 1943, 403494. A.G.Beveridge. on all other medals. The named medals impressed. The DFC is in the Royal Mint case of issue, nearly uncirculated, the rest good very fine - extremely fine.

Together with a set of five matching campaign stars and service medals all inscribed 403494 Beveridge A.G. (officially issued in 1971 when the claim was made for replacement of a lost Returned from Active Service badge although there appears to be no request for the medals); some spare ribbons, mostly short; RAAF pilot's wings embroidered badge (stained); matching set of swing mounted miniature medals missing War Medal 1939-45; pair of nickel dog tags named to A G Beveridge 403494 RAAF; Returned from Active Service badge (QC), numbered on reverse AF130503 (issued 03Aug1971 to replace lost badge No.23866); The Australian Soldiers' Pocket Book; Royal Canadian Air Force, Observers And Air Gunner's Flying Log Book, Name A.C.Beveridge Aus 403494 (issued when training in Canada), this Log Book includes all operational flying to 09Aug1943 and some of the locations include Cologne, Essen, Bremen, Wilhemshaven, Dusseldorf, Lyon, Paris, Frankfurt, Genoa, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Turin, Duisburg, Lorient, Dortmund, Bochum, and Krefeld .
DFC: LG 13/8/1943, p3630; CAG 26/8/1943, p1789, to A/Flight Lieutenant Alexander George Beveridge, No.8 Sqn (RAF) while serving with RAAF - For courage and devotion to duty displayed in flying operations against the enemy.
Recommendation Citation: for attacks against Dortmund, Essen, Turin, etc. This officer has displayed courage and devotion to duty of a high order. During many operational sorties many of them attacks against heavily defended objectives such as Dortmund, Essen, Turin, Duisburg and Dusseldorf, he has proved himself to be a very gallant and successful bombing leader, who has been instrumental in raising the standard of bombing in his squadron to a praiseworthy degree.

Alexander George Beveridge, jackeroo for 2 years and then carpenter, age 26, born at Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland; Enl.20Jul1940 in RAAF Reserves with previous service of 2 months with 36Bn (St George's Rifles); Re-Enl.01Feb1941 at No.2 Rec. Centre, Sydney, NSW in RAAF and to AC2; Emb.21Feb1941 for training in Canada and attached to RCAF; to LAC 01Mar1941; qualified as Wireless Operator (Air) 25Sep1941 at No.3 Wireless School, Winnipeg, Manitoba; qualified as Wireless Operator (Air Gunner) 25Oct1941; Emb.03Nov1941 from Canada for UK and attached to RAF; to Sgt 25Oct1941; qualified as Bombing Leader and Pilot Officer 14Nov1942; awarded Pilot's Flying Badge 26Jan1943; to Flying Officer 14May1943; awarded DFC 13Aug1943; to Flt Lt 14Nov1944; served in various units and on several operations from 15Aug1942 onwards he was Bombardier and 2nd Pilot; RTA and Disemb.27May1945 at Melbourne, Vic; Disch.17Oct1945 on demobilisation; Died 02Jan1975 at age 60.
