WNAV (WELLINGTON NAVAL ARTILLERY VOLUNTEERS), award badge, uniface, handcrafted in silver (39x41.5mm), by J.King (James King, Wellington), three suspension lugs on reverse, obverse inscribed 'Cutter Race won/by/Sea. Bernasconi. Star. 1892/" Petersen. Port 1893/" Petersen. 1894/Gun. Shearer, 1895/Nixon,/Shaw. '97', reverse inscribed 'Gun. Shaw, 1898/Shaw, 1899'. Very fine.

The Wellington Naval Artillery Volunteers, established in 1879, originally operated two naval cutters. The unit had a boathouse built in 1894 and this was taken over in 1931 by the Wellington Rowing Club.^^With research.
