U.A.O.D (United Ancient Order of Druids), fob medal, hand engraved in silver and gold (28.5x29mm), hallmarked for Birmingham 1897 by maker J.A. (James Allen), ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'AJP', reverse inscribed 'Presented/by/Dr Jas. Mc Brearty/To/Bro. Pratt/U.A.O.D/1898'. Very fine.

(Alfred) J.Pratt, a member of the Druids' and Masonic Lodges, was a worker at one of the local sawmills and was also a miner. He was drowned on 14 June 1899 when he was crossing the Ahaura River in a canoe which capsized. Two other occupants of the canoe survived. At the time they were returning from their mining claim at Riverview. The funeral left the Robert Burns' Lodge No.50 Room on Sunday 18 June with members requested to attend.^^Dr James McBrearty LFPSG, LMG, MPS, physician and surgeon was born in Greenock, Scotland. After obtaining his medical degrees and working in hospitals and in private practice in Scotland he migrated to New Zealand in late 1866. There he served in hospitals and private practice and was also surgeon-major of the Naval Volunteers and surgeon to the Druids and for a time to the Hibernian Society as well as to the Brunner mines for 5 years.^^With research.
