The following courtesy of National Library of New Zealand, Papers Past, from the Gremouth Evening Star, 2 April 1906, p3:-^^VALEDICTORY^A very pleasing function took place on Saturday night last at Mrs Riordan's bonding house, State Mine, when the numerous friends of Mr F. Brace assembled to present him with a token of the high esteem in which he is held. About 70 friends sat down to a splendid repast provided by Mr Riordan, and full justice was done to the eatables.^^Mr Geo. Millar, who occupied the chair, spoke very highly of the abilities of the guest of the evening, as also did Mr Hilton and other workers at the mine. The usual toast of the "King and Royal Family" was duly honoured, after which a pleasant time was spent in song and enjoyment. During a lull in the proceedings the chairman took the opportunity of presenting Mr Brace with a gold watch, on behalf of the subscribers, and in doing so hoped that he would be long spared to wear it.^^Mr J. Herd's fine phonograph was brought into requisition and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Mr Frank Brace, who has been transferred to the State mine, Seddonville, is carrying with him the friendship of all. Votes of thanks were given to Mrs Riordan for the splendid repast provided and to Mr Herd for the use of his phonograph. The health of the chairman and also his comrade, Mr " Bob" Pollock was drunk, the gathering concluding with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
