EVELYN WAUGH, famous author, signed letter dated April 18th [1950], with the heading and Arms of British Embassy, Rome, handwritten in ink it reads in part, 'Dear Count Bompiani/I was on the point of writing to thank you for the delightful luncheon party on Saturday, when you added to my debt of gratitude by your kind present of the two splendid publications of your firm... The luncheon was delightful ... & for you introducing me to a restaurant which I should never have found for myself and which I shall now frequent. The two books are a triumph of fine printing & I shall always treasure them as a souvenir of the Holy Year..'. Very fine and very scarce.
