GROUP OF FIVE: Queen's Sudan Medal 1896-97; Queen's South Africa Medal 1899-1902, (type 2 reverse), - three clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal; King's South Africa Medal 1901-02, - two clasps - South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902; Khedive's Sudan Medal 1896-1908, - two clasps - The Atbara, Khartoum; Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal (38mm). 3073 (sic on medal roll as 3075) Sgt J.Ferguson 1/Sea Hrs. on first medal, 3075 Sejt J.Ferguson, 2:Sea:Highrs: on second medal, 3075 Serjt: J.Ferguson. Seaforth Highrs: on third medal, 3075 Sergt J.Ferguson 1st Seath" Highrs" on fourth medal, Sergt John Ferguson, 11th July. 1897. on last medal. The first, fourth and fifth medals engraved, the second and third medals impressed. Display mounted, toned good very fine.

Royal Humane Society Medal - Case No.29071 - awarded to Sergts John Evans (age: 36 years) and John Ferguson (age: 26 years), 1st Battn. Seaforth Highlanders, at great personal risk rescued Sergt. A. McLeod from drowning at Candia, Crete, on the 11th July 1897 - a Bronze Medal to each. The men were returning from the Island of Standici in an open boat when McLeod fell overboard 3 ? miles from land, 60-70 fathoms deep, fresh wind and rough sea. Evans and Ferguson sprang after him, got hold and supported him till a boat came round and picked them up. Case reported by O.C. troops Malta. Both medals were sent to the War Office on 15 November 1897.^With research including medal rolls for first three medals.
