MBE GROUP OF SIX: The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Member (MBE) (Military type 2); Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; General Service Medal 1918-62 (EIIR), - clasp - Malaya; General Service Medal 1962-2007 (EIIR), clasp - Malay Peninsula; Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (EIIR without BRITT.OMN), with second award bar. The first three medals unnamed as issued, W/O. J.G.Chapman. (883062). W.R.A.F. on fourth and sixth medals, W/O.(W) J.C.Chapman (W0883062) W.R.A.F. on fifth medal. The named medals appear to be engraved. Swing mounted, with contact marks, otherwise very fine.

Together with,^1) A swing mounted matching set of miniatures.^2) Parchment document for appointment as MBE to Joan Gwendolen Chapman Warrant Officer in Our Women's Royal Air Force dated 2 June 1962 and signed by the Queen.^3) Certificate for Commendation By The Air Commander Far East Air Force to Warrant Officer (W) J.G.Chapman M.B.E. (W0883062) dated 1st January 1968. ^4) RAF Strike Command certificate for Commendation by Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief to Warrant Officer J.G.Chapman, MBE, dated 1st January 1971.^5) Certificate for King Neptune Order of Equatorial Air Voyagers to Joan Chapman, dated 25th February 1967 with the seal of QANTAS.^6) Invitation from the Director of the Women's Royal Air Force for Warrant Officer J.G.Chapman to meet Her Majesty The Queen and Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester, Air Chief Commandant, Women's Royal Air Force at a Garden Party 18 May 1962.^7) Two photos including one meeting royalty.^8) Various official letters as well as several letters of congratulations on being awarded the MBE and one dated 3/1/1968 for being awarded a Commendation for Meritorious Service by the Air Commander for her service at Changi, Singapore in the 1960s.^9) Some of the documents stored in a RAF Form 856A folder.^Joan Gwedolen Chapman was born 16 September 1921 and enlisted 4 September 1939 in the Women's Royal Air Force. She served in the mustering of Clerk Secretarial and was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in 1962. She discharged 16 September 1976 as a Warrant Officer with character classified as Exemplary. Joan Gwendolen Chapman MBE died on 4 August 2013 with the funeral service held at All Hallows' Church, Wellingborough, Northhamptonshire, England.
