Shepherd Webster Steele, born 3Oct1899 in Trory, Ballycassidy, Ireland; Enl. as ON3728 Boy in Royal Navy and awarded 1914-15 Star; was training at HMS Vivid I when classified as deserter on 16May1916 in Police Gazette of May1916; Police Gazette of Dec1916 records, 'deserter or absentee who has rejoined' on 26Dec1916 and now Ord Seaman John Shepherd Webster Steel; from HMS Vivid to HMS Glorious 27Feb1918 to 24Feb1919; rated as Very Good and promoted to Able Seaman; Disch.24Feb1919 and awarded Silver War badge 10Jun1919.
