CONVICT LOVE TOKEN, stipple engraved on a 1797 cartwheel penny shaved smooth on both sides, on one side, "Mary/Garret/Love And/Liberty/1843", and on the other side, difficult to read but appears to be "Bumbal/2 Months/For Pat Ter/For.Clo/UTS". With a few spots of oxidation on one side, otherwise good.

Mary Jones, alias Garret, aged 32, house servant/cook, was convicted of theft and sentenced to 7 years in the colonies. She arrived in Van Diemen's Land on 24 April 1840. With research.
