IONIA, Teos, (520-510/505 B.C.), silver stater, (11.775 grams), obv. griffin seated on back legs to right, on doted base, with foreleg raised, NV monogram below, rev. quadripartite incuse square, (Balcer SNR. 1968, Group II No.8A, [die A8/P11], Boston 1836 [same dies], cf.S.3512). Very fine and very rare.

Ex. Teos Hoard (1983). $$ Balcer notes 9 specimens from Group II which have NV monogram inscription on the obverse. A small number of specimens are known to come from the Teos hoard. Balcer notes 3 obverse and 5 reverse dies, these dies have been previously noted by Balcer. The Teos hoard although unpublished in noted to contain over 100 staters of Teos.
