SYRIA, Kingdom of, Alexander I Balas, (150-145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (14.30 grams), Tyre mint, issued year 162 = 151-150 B.C., obv. diademed bust of Alexander I to right, dotted border, rev. eagle standing left on galley's prow, palm branch behind on right shoulder, to left club surmounted by TYP monogram, around BASILEOS on right and ALEXANDROV on left, in right field BXR, (cf.S.7033, Newell ANSMN 73, 56, Houghton ACNAC 742). Dark tone, tiny flan crack, extremely fine and very desireable.
