MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver obol, (0.686 grams), Ecbatana mint, issued c.295-280 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin, dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, M to left, **ALEXANDROU* to right, trace of O under throne, dotted border, (cf.S.6736, cf.Price 3954 [hemidrachm], BMC -, M.-). Porous flan, otherwise very fine, extremely rare and apparently unpublished.
