LUCIUS VERUS, (A.D. 161-169), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 161, (25.11 grams), obv. bare headed bust of Lucius Verus, draped and cuirassed to right, around IMP CAES L AVREL VERVS AVG, rev. around CONCORD AVGVSTOR TR P COS II, SC in exergue, Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus both togate standing facing each other with clasped hands, (S.5367, RIC 1284, C.28, BMC 859). A striking piece with a very dark brown patina, in exceptional high relief, as fine as any known specimen of this ruler, good extremely fine and extremely rare in this condition.
Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 46 (lot 2022) and previously from the Manuel Canovas Collection, sold by Vinchon of Paris May 18, 1994 (lot 65 illustrated in colour).
