Lot 3580    Session 11 (9.30am Thursday)    Roman Silver & Bronze Coins

Estimate $120
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $70

GARGILIUS, Ogulnius and Vergilius, (c.86 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.61 grams), obv. Jupiter (or Apollo Vejovis) head to right, with oak wreath, thunderbolt below, rev. Jupiter in quadriga to right, (S.266, Cr.350A/2, Syd.723, RSC 226). Toned, banker's mark on cheek, otherwise good very fine / very fine.

This is an example of an exceptionally late anonymous issue. The reason for this is unclear but it is obviously connected with the signed denarii of Gargonius, Ogulnius and Vergilius.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
