JULIUS CAESAR, (assassinated 44 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, struck 40 B.C., (3.50 g), obv. Julius Caesar laureate head to right, rev. Q VOCONIVS above VITVLVS Q /DESIGN, bull calf walking to left, S C either side, (S.1428(1), Cr.526/4, Syd.1133, BMC 4311). Fine and rare.

The Voconia gens probably adopted the symbol of a calf as a punning allusion to the cognomen Vitulus.
