EGYPT, Kingdom of, Ptolemy III, (246-221 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (13.82 g), Alexandria mint, obv. diademed head of Ptolemy I to right wearing aegis, rev. eagle to left with closed wings, standing on thunderbolt around **SWTHROS PTOLEMAIOU*, to left cornucopiae, (cf.S.7806, Sv.1001, SNG Cop.167, BMC 83 [p.54], Hunter 20). Good very fine, and a rare type.

Ex Coin Galleries Mail Bid Sale December 2, 1998 (lot 127 part). Svoronos notes a total of 19 specimens. The Meydancikkale Hoard of 1980, published in Paris in 1989 had no specimens of the type as the hoard was buried earlier.
