C. POSTUMIUS, silver denarius, issued c.74 B.C., 3.91 grams, Rome Mint, Crawford 394/1a, Sydenham 785, BMC 3238, B. Postumia 9, Sear 287, Obv. Draped bust of Diana to r., S.C. below chin, with bow and quiver over shoulder, border of dots, Rev. Hound running to r., below a spear, C.POSTVMI/ AT(monogram) all in exergue. Toned, nearly extremely fine, (1476).

Ex C. Pitchfork Collection and previously from Dolphin Coins, London, November 16, 1986.

The type of Diana is from the issues of other Postumii and the hound was the constant companion of the Huntress. The moneyer is a C. Postumius and was probably a candidate for the praetorship in 62 B.C. but is otherwise not known.
