DFM GROUP OF SIX TO RCAF AIR GUNNER: Distinguished Flying Medal (GVIR Ind:Imp); 1939-45 Star; France and Germany Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Maple Leaf clasp (overseas service); Korea Medal 1950-53; United Nations Korea Medal 1950-53; General Service Medal 1915-62 (EIIR Br:Omn), - clasp - Malaya; Royal Air Force Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (EIIR Dei:Gratia). Can/R.252951 F/Sgt J.D.Dixon. R.C.A.F. on first medal, the second to sixth medals unnamed as issued, 4015010 F.Sgt. J.D.Dixon. R.A.F. on seventh and eighth medals, 4015010 Sgt J D Dixon R.A.F. on last two medals. The first and last medals engraved, the other named medals impressed. Very fine - extremely fine.

Together with RCAF Operational Wings badge (awarded in recognition of gallant service for completing a tour of operational duty in action against the enemy); RCAF Air Gunner's embroidered wing badge (KC); metal pilot's hat badge (KC) with brooch bar fitting.

DFM: Supplement to LG 21/9/1945, p4706, to Flt Sgt John Dallas Dixon, 427 (R.C.A.F.) Sqn. - completed numerous operations against the enemy in the course of which (he has) displayed the utmost fortitude, courage and devotion to duty.

Recommended 19Apr1945 when he had flown 29 sorties (188 hours 55 minutes) as rear gunner. Award effective 08Sep1945 as per LG 21/9/1945.
This gunner has completed 29 heavy operational bombing attacks against the enemy; his work at all times has been of very high caliber (sic). He possesses coolness and displays exceptional fearlessness in the face of danger and his cheerful confidence, loyalty and devotion to duty have inspired a high standard of morale not only in his crew, but to all who come in contact with him.

John Dallas Dixon, Enl.24Apr1943 at Vancouver; trained at No.3 BGS (graduated 26Mar1944); served as rear gunner with No.427 (R.C.A.F.) Sqn (Lion Sqn) operating Halifax aircraft and member of No.6 (R.C.A.F.) Group, Bomber Command.
