SOUTH AFRICA, Group of Four: Military Cross; 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19 with MID (copy). T.Welsh 1st Field Amb.S.A.M.C. on Star, Capt T.Welsh on last two medals. Second to fourth medals impressed. Display court mounted, very fine.

T.Welsh, Capt, 1st Field Ambulance, South African Medical Corps, DOW 12Apr1917, buried Athies Communal Cemetery Extension.

MC 'On the night after the action of 12th October near Eaucourt Uabbaye this medical officer personally took out a bearer party to bring in the wounded under very heavy shell and machine gun fire. He displayed great gallantry and coolness under extremely difficult conditions and it is mainly owing to his untiring exertions that so many wounded were brought in. From 10th to the 14th October he worked unceasingly and practically without sleep remaining behind after the regiment was relieved to help look after the wounded. His conduct and gallantry are beyond praise'.

MID LG 10.1.1917 'Captain T.Welsh and Captain M.B.Lawrie, S.A.M.C. Both these officers showed conspicuous coolness and bravery under very heavy shell and rifle fire, throughout the Battle. They never spared themselves however worn-out; ready at all times for any emergency, and carried out their orders with precision and thoroughness. The evacuation of wounded from Bernafay and Trone Woods under most nerve wracking conditions, in the earlier stages, and later on from Longueval and Delville Wood, through open country, called for courage of the first order. I have therefore no hesitation in recommending both of these officers for the Military Cross, I am attaching recommendation from O.C.Bearer Sub Section to me.

Together with photocopies of the recommendations and War Graves commemoration.
