PAIR: British War Medal 1914-18; Mercantile Marine War Medal 1914-18. F.O'Beirne. Australia. 4105. Both medals impressed. Good very fine.

Together with British Merchant Navy badge in enamel suspended under an enamelled Mercantile Marine War Medal ribbon brooch bar.

Francis O'Beirne, born 12Sep1887 at Tuncurry, NSW; Certificates of Competency issued - 23Jul1909 No.552, Second Mate, foreign-going ship; 27Oct1911 No.574, First Mate, foreign-going ship; 17Sep1915 No.740, Master, foreign-going ship; 05Oct1915 No.3265, Pilotage exemption; 09Mar1915 at age 26 he was 1st Mate on Lindstol and in 1919 he was Master of the same vessel; Died 14Jan1959. The Lindstol was a three-masted barque built in 1903. From 1913 it was registered at the port of Sydney and was employed in the coal and timber trade operating between Australia and New Zealand.
