Syria, Kingdom of, Antiochos III Megas, (222-187 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.89 g), Seleucia on the Tigris Mint, obv. head of Antiochus III to right, with diadem, with diadem ends waving in elaborate arabesques behind head, rev. Apollo seated to left, on omphalos, holding arrow and resting on bow, to right **BASILEWS*, to left ANTI OXOY, monograms **EM/YE8 (E's reversed) to left, MTO monogram to right, **W*M monogram n exergue, (S.6934 var., SC 1161.4, ESM 234, HGC 9, 447mm). Minor surface marks, nearly very fine/fine, scarce.
Ex Patrick Cooper Collection, from CNG Triton VI, January 14-15, 2003 (lot 1565 part), bought from Baldwin's London, in 1974 for £37.50, with tickets.
