Syria, Kingdom of, Alexander I Balas, (150-145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.55 g), Antioch on the Orontes mint, dated year 165, = 148-147 B.C., obv. diademed head of Alexander I to right, filleted border, rev. Zeus Nikephorus seated left on throne holding sceptre and Nike presenting a wreath to Zeus, on right, **BASILEWS ALEXANDROU* and to left **QEOPATOROS EUERGET[OU]*, PA monogram on inner left, under throne date and control **EXR PR*, (cf.S.7030, SC 1784.3c, SMA 151, HGC 9, 875a). Bright, good very fine and scarce.
Ex Patrick Cooper Collection, from CNG Triton VI, January 14-15, 2003 (lot 1565 part), bought privately in 1995 for £125 with tickets.
