Syria, Kingdom of, Antiochus VII Euergetes (Sidetes), (138-129 B.C.), a posthumous issue by the kings of Cappadocia, Ariarathes VII Philometor, (c.107/6-101/0 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, Morkholm Mint C, Class XI linked to the Royal Cappadocian Coinage, (16.51 g), obv. Diademed head of Antiochus VII to right, with filleted border around, rev. Athena standing to left, holding Nike to right, spear and shield, to left in field near laurel wreath. **DI* monogram, over A, to left of Athena A, to right of Athena K, to right **BASILEWS* ANTIOXOY, to left **EUER GETOU*, all within laurel wreath, (cf.S.7092, SC 2149.5 [p.406], SMA Newell No. 295). Toned, well centred, extremely fine and rare.
Ex Patrick Cooper Collection, from CNG Triton VI, January 14-15, 2003 (lot 1565 part), bought from John Cummings at Coinex, October 1987 for £90.
