TRIO TO WIA AT GALLIPOLI: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal 1914-18, Victory Medal 1914-19. 1446 Pte B.H.Thompson. A.M.C. A.I.F. on first medal, 1446 Pte B.H.Thompson. 1/G.Hosp. A,I,F, on second medal, 1446 Pte B.H.Thompson. 1 A.G.H. A.I.F. on last medal. All medals impressed. Display mounted, contact marks, otherwise fine.

Together with original Certificate of Discharge, preserved in an acid free pack; large photo in uniform (this photo with foxing); Australian Army Medical Corps oxidised bronze collar badge; AMC oxidised bronze shoulder title; pin backed riband bar for above three medals.

Bertie Hill Thompson, baker, age 18, born at Low Head, Georgetown, Tas; Enl.12Sep1914 at Pontville, Tas in 1 Aust Clearing Hosp, with previous service in School Cadets and currently in militia, 92nd Infantry; proceeded overseas to join MEF and then to hospital 01Feb1915 with appendicitis; Discharged to duty 20Feb1915; at Gallipoli landing 25Apr1915; WIA 13Aug1915 GSW right knee severe, at Gallipoli; Invalided to Australia 08Oct1915; Disch.08Apr1916.

Bertie Hill Thompson of Elsternwick died 15Mar1947 at age 51 as the result of an accident at Koo-wee-rup in Victoria when the car he was driving along the Gippsland Highway swerved off the road and overturned killing him and his wife suffered a broken ankle and facial injuries. The funeral service arranged by T.Bathurst & Co was held on 17Mar1947 at the Bathurst Memorial Chapel at Elsternwick prior to burial at the New Cheltenham Cemetery.
