ITALY, Lucania, Velia, (c.440/435-400 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.70 g), obv. head of Athena to left, wearing Attic helmet, T behind, rev. lion to right pulling down stag, **[UELH]TWN around, ivy leaf between legs of stag, (cf.S.453, Williams 222 [These Dies], SNG ANS 1281 [same dies], SNG Ash. 1164 [same dies]). Gray patination, slightly off centred on the reverse, otherwise good very fine, scarce.
