SEXTUS POMPEY, (42-40 B.C.), silver denarius, Sicilian mint, (3.64 g), obv. the Pharos of Messina surmounted by Neptune, galley left before it, MAG PIVS IMP ITER around, rev. the marine monster Scylla, around PRAEF CLA[S ET ORAE MARIT S.C.], (S.1393, Cr.511/4a, Syd. 1348, RSC 2). Uneven toning, struck off centre, banker's mark on obverse, otherwise fine and rare.
