GAIUS (CALIGULA), (A.D. 37-41), AE as, Rome mint, issued A.D. 40-41, (11.14 g), obv. bare head of Caligula to left, around C CAESAR DIVI AVG PRON AVG P M TR P III P P, rev. VESTA above, Vesta seated to left, veiled and draped seated on ornamental throne, holding patera and transverse sceptre, S C across field, (cf.S.1803, RIC 47, C.28). Attractive dark green patina, very fine and rare.
