CELTIC, Gallo-Belgic, imported to Britain, uninscribed coinage from Northeast Gaul, Ambiani, (c175-120 B.C.), gold quarter stater, (1.65 g), obv. stylized elaborate wreathed head of Apollo to right, rev. Stylized celticised horse to right, ornaments in field, (S.6 [British Coins], cf.Sills 271, Van-Arsdell 15-1, DT 559). Very worn as usual, good - very good, rare.

Ex CNG Triton X, January 9, 2007 (lot 1701 part), together with a ticket and description by H.N. Pollard PhD.
