CBE GROUP OF EIGHT: The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Commander (CBE Civil type 2), neck badge; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; Jubilee Medal 1935; Coronation Medal 1937; Coronation Medal 1953. First medal and last three medals unnamed as issued, Eng.Sub.Lieut. G.I.D.Hutcheson. R.A.N. on second medal, Engr.Sub.Lieut. G.I.D.Hutcheson. R.A.N. on third medal, G.I.D.Hutcheson. R.A.N. on fourth and fifth medals. All named medals impressed. The CBE in case of issue and other medals display mounted, a few contact marks on second medal and unusual toning on third and a few medals with small carbon spots, otherwise very fine - extremely fine.

Together with large camouflage painted tin (L47xW23.5xD26cm) holding an officer's gold bullion and leather dress uniform belt with attached sword belts stored in a velvet covered tin at inner base of the large tin, also a Captain's bicorn hat by W.E.Legge, 43 Station Road, Devonport, and this sits atop the belt tin, also a pair of bullion officer's shoulder boards, these held in individual velvet pad and wire brackets at inside top of large tin that fold open to enable storage of the bicorn, the underside of the tin's lid has a velvet lining with a pouch in the centre, this lining is loose, also on the lid of the tin is the painted name, 'G.I.D.Hutcheson. R.A.N.'; silver cigarette case hallmarked for Birmingham 1936, machine turned case with small, plain plaque on left corner of lid inscribed, 'G.I.D.H.', missing elastic retaining strap for cigarettes on inside; book titled 'Cockatoo Island, Sydney's Historic Dockyard', by John Jeremy, 1998, hardcover with dust jacket, 263pp, with b&w photos throughout and mention of G.I.D.Hutcheson on several pages and his photo on p42, signed on front fly page by David L. Allen.

CBE (Civil Division): Birthday Honours 1960, CAG No.46, 23/6/1960, p2177 and Supplement to LG 11/6/1960, p4010 - to Captain George Ian Dewart Hutcheson, RAN (Retired), of Edgecliff, New South Wales, for services to the engineering profession in Australia.

George Ian Dewart Hutcheson born 09Jun1897 at Coleraine, Vic; educated at University of Adelaide, Sth Aust; Enl.01Jan1918 and appt'd Sub-Lieut; at war's end was serving on HMAS Australia and when the German Fleet surrendered the German battle cruiser Hindenburg was interned at Scarpa Flow and the allocated guard ship was HMAS Australia; Appt'd Engineer Lieut 01Jan1920; to Engineer Lieut-Cmdr 01Jan1926; to Engineer Cmdr 30Jun1930; Delivered The War Memorial Lecture at the Sydney University Engineering Club on 9 November 1932 on the subject of engineering progress in the Navy and Mercantile Marine since the war; to Engineer Capt 25Sep1943; Disch.26Sep1947 as Engineer Captain, HMAS Rushcutter; Trf to Emergency List 27Sep1947; Trf to Retired List 09Jun1957; Died 01Sep1965; Cremation Service at Northern Suburbs Crematorium.

On his passing in 1965 the following obituary was published, 'The death occurred suddenly Sept. 1, at his Darling Point, Sydney, home of Captain George I.D.Hutcheson (68) after a long and distinguished career as an engineer and industrialist. Capt. Hutcheson had been chairman of the Standards Association of Australia for the past eight years and at the time of his death was chairman of Vickers Australia Pty Ltd. He was a past-president of the Australian Institute of Engineers, and also of the Chamber of Manufactures and the Metal Trades' Employers' Assn, a member of the Council of the University of NSW, and of the Technical Education Advisory Council. Earlier, Capt. Hutcheson served with distinction in the Royal Australian Navy throughout World War I as well as in World War II, retiring from the Navy in 1947. Capt. Hutcheson, who leaves his widow, was cremated at the Northern Suburbs Crematorium Sept 3.'
