TRIO TO LIGHT HORSE: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. Lieut. R. St. C.Cheesman. 2/L.H.Rgt. A.I.F. on first medal, Captain. R. StC. Cheesman. A.I.F. on last two medals. All medals impressed. Good very fine - extremely fine.
The trio of medals was reported lost in 1928 and officially replaced from original medals held in stock at the time. It is unsure as to which issue are the above medals.
Robert St Clair Cheesman, banker, age 44, born at Kingstown in the Island of St Vincent, West Indies; Enl.20Oct1914 at Brisbane, Qld in 5LHR, while seconded from 27LHR to Assistant Provost Marshall at Lytton (3 1/ 2 years as 2Lieut and 12 months as Adjutant of 27LHR); to Lieut 16Feb1915; Emb.17May1915; to Gallipoli 28Aug1915; to Capt 30Jun1916; to 1LHR B Sqdn as O.C. 22Feb1917; C-in-C directs that he return to Australia with orders to report to Minister of Defence on arrival; RTA 11Jul1917 (file marked 'Returned to Australia for disposal. Reason Inefficiency. General Headquarters state complete file sent.'); Appt terminated 08Sep1917; Died 11Sep1940.
