MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION, 1880, in silver (51mm) (cf C.1880/18), by H.Stokes, edge inscribed, 'Langlands Foundry Co Melbourne - Carriage Wheels'. Hairlines, otherwise nearly uncirculated.


At the exhibition Langlands Foundry entered the machinery section with a locomotive engine and also railway carriage wheels, winning a medal for the latter. Langlands Foundry also cast the big bell, the largest cast in Australia up until then, weighing nearly two tons, which was for the Emerald Hill town-hall clock but was hung in the main building during the exhibition and used to give a warning to patrons that the exhibition closing time for the day was approaching.
