THALLON MEMORIAL, Junior Examination Queensland University, 1929, in gold (15ct; 18.22g; 26mm), no maker, reverse inscribed, 'John F./Reddy/1929', edge inscribed, 'Christian Brothers College Ipswich'. Hairlines, obverse lettering double struck, otherwise good very fine.
The Thallon Memorial Medal was established as a memorial to James Forsyth Thallon under whose leadership as Queensland Commissioner for Railways from 1 November 1902 to 24 march 1911 the Queensland Railways Department developed a broad network. It was awarded to children of railwaymen gaining the highest marks in the Junior Examination at the University of Queensland. John Franklin Reddy was the son of Mr John F. Reddy, an engine driver from Dugandan.
