PHRYGIA, Eumenia, Nero, (54-68 A.D.), AE 19mm, (5.17 g), Struck 54-59 A.D., Julius Kleon, archon of Asia, obv. bare-headed and draped bust right of Nero around **NERWN SEBASTOS*, rev. Apollo standing left, holding bipennis (double axe) and raven, around **EUMENEWN IOULIOS KLEWN ARCIEPEUS ASIAS* (S.600, RPC I 3149, SNG Cop.394, Weber 7094, BMC 41, Lockett Sale 21-3, February 1961 [lot 2927, Plate XXXI, This Coin illustrated). Good very fine, brown patina, rare.
Ex CNG Triton III, November 30, December 1, 1999 (lot 1668 part); coming from the Cornelius C. Vermeule III Collection, sold for the benefit of the Classical Department of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, previously from the Richard Cyril Lockett Collection, Part XII sold in Glendining & Co, London, 21-23 February, 1961 (lot 2927) illustrated realised ?4; also coming from an earlier collection with early 20th century detailed ticket.
