EMPIRE OF TREBIZOND, John II (1280-1297), silver asper, (2.25 g), obv. OA E (three dots below) - **G*E N O, St. Eugenius standing, holding long cross, rev. [I] W Ko N dot - N O C, six pointed star below, John standing holding labarum and globus cruciger, [touched by Manus Dei] (the hand of God) above right off flan, (S.2609, cf.Bendall 33a, cf.Retowski 70, [p.111, type illustrated]). Toned, good fine, very rare, (variety noted by Retowski).
