GREAT BRITAIN, 40th (2nd Somersetshire) Regiment of Foot, 1844-55, officer's shoulder belt plate in gilt and white metal. Extremely fine.

The 40th spent most of its first tour of duty to Australia in Tasmania, with one company in Sydney. On its second tour it was mainly in Victoria with detachments in Tasmania, South Australia and the Swan River Settlement.
