SICILY, Syracuse, reign of Hieron II, (275-215 B.C.), AE 26, (18.71 g), obv. diademed head of Hieron beardless to left, rev. horseman prancing to right, holding spear couched, beneath N, in exergue of IEP**WNO[S]*, (S.1221, SNG ANS 936-9, SNG Cop.838, Calciati 195 [Rev.22], BMC 588, HGC 2, 1548). Dark-green patination, nearly extremely fine and rare symbol.

Ex Kunker Auction 277, June 21, 2016 (lot 29) and previously from the collection of Dieter Braun Auction 158, September 28, 2009 (lot 127), and from NAC Auction D, March 2, 1994, (lot 1283).
